Made a school boy error as I never test the horns before painting them! Shouldn’t have been surprised but discovered they don’t actually work. The hard part is getting the horns apart as the tops of the steel rivets had to be ground off and then some heat applied before I could punch out the remaining part of the rivet.

Once apart the fix was simple as all that was required was to clean the coil contact with some emery paper!

Now I just need to reassemble and repaint them.

Have spent a few hours over the last few days getting the boot catch to fit and function correctly. First step was to resin three captive nuts into the boot lid for the catch to attach too.  Once set the catch was install but there was insufficient adjustment to make it fit operate correctly (when boot was closed it wasn’t kept tightly shut). The solution was to weld a 5 mm extension on catch (you can probably just make out the weld that’s been ground flat in photo below).

Removed the front sub frame to weld up the box section I cut to make the twin  40 DCOE Weber carburetors fit. Think it;s now ready to be shot blasted and painted (not sure when that will be yet).

I continued with the engine mount modifications today. Modified brackets were installed and engine bolted in place. The next modification was to the front suspension sub-frame. A section of the square tube needed to be removed as it was in the way  of the carburetors. The photo below shows this however it will require welding up at a later date when the sub frame has been removed from the car (welding while its bolted to the wood is likely to cause burning of the plywood as its so close).

With the final modification it was possible to reassemble the inlet manifold and carburetors and the bonnet now closes.

Its still all a really close fit but i can’t see how i can easily gain any more space. Will just have to hope the engine doesn’t flex too much on its mounts, other wise it could end up damaging the bonnet.
