Today was more about improving panel fit than fixing cracks in the gel coat. Resin in several layers of fibre glass tissue to improve the fit. Tomorrow once its set I’ll be able to sand it down.

Started fixing the roof. The fibre glass is badly cracked in numerus places around where the rear screen fits. Have had to grind out a lot of the old fibre glass to get onto material that’s good to join onto. Think it will be a number of days to fix this area.

Spent the last few day trying to make the drivers door fit correctly. Tried heating the door with hot air gun and twisting (wasn’t that successful). Cut the door in various places and GRP’d it back together and finally twisted the door slightly more than required and layered up a layer of GRP on the inside of the door skin. Finally after doing all these things the door fits a hell of a lot better!

I also fitted the door catch mechanism.

Nothing done to the car today but spent time updating website so it now supports/defaults to  https.  As its only a blog it really doesn’t need to be https but to many browser’s complain and say site is insecure if its displayed via http. Only took a few hours and its done now so won’t have to worry about it in future.

Fitted the drivers door today. Had the same issues as with the passenger door that had to cut and reweld the hinge to make it fit nicely at the front edge of the door. However the door fit is still terrible. Have cut through the  door skin at the front top section, took a section out and clamped it to improve the fit. Just have to bond it back together when I get a chance.

Even with this modification the fit Is still terrible at the rear of the door. It looks like the door has twisted over the years its been in storage. Will have to come up with a plan to try and fix this.

From some research on the internet it might be possible to heat up door with a hot air gun while applying force to twist it, Supposedly if you get fibre glass hot enough it becomes soft and can be bent and then sets once it gets cold again.
